AuthorI am Nigel Macfarlane and I hold a 3rd Degree Black Belt with the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF). ITF certifications are recognized internationally in almost every country in the world with millions of members worldwide. I started practicing the art since 1989 in Kingston Jamaica where the training was very old school. Taekwondo was extremely rigorous and challenging at my first Dojang, very few survived making it to the ranks of Black Belt. My initial interest in Taekwondo was for the purpose of self-defense and self-improvement. However, early into my training I discovered that I had an aptitude for competitive Martial Arts, and went on to compete for many years, nationally and internationally. The most meaningful part of my Taekwondo journey has always been in teaching. As a Red Belt, I was placed in charge of the Western section of the Jamaica Taekwondo Association. In 1995 with the help a close friend, Mr. Ryan Rampair, we opened the first official ITF Taekwondo School in Jamaica's second city, Montego Bay. Taekwondo continues to thrive in Montego Bay today, thanks to the perseverance and indomitable spirit of my top student, Mr. Shukura. |
